Serum vitamin D levels in girls with central precocious puberty

چکیده مقاله:
Precocious puberty can cause several adverse effects on final growth and social behavior in girls. Recently studies showed that low serum vitamin D levels might be associated with precocious puberty. The aim of this research was to investigate the association between serum vitamin D levels and central precocious puberty in girls. Girls with central precocious puberty under the age of 8 were enrolled into the study. Subjects with brain tumor, inherent adrenal hyperplasia and thyroid dysfunction were excluded from the study. Age, weight, height, serum level of vitamin D concentration, LH, FSH, Estradiol, FT4, bone age, TSH and tanner stages were determined for all subjects. The healthy girls with no precocious puberty were considered as control group. Finally 58 girls (28 with central precocious puberty and 30 in control group) were enrolled to the study. The average of serum vitamin D levels were 12.9 ± 7.8 ng/mL and 15.2±5.9 ng/mL in case and control groups respectively, (P = 0.02). The thirty seven percent of girls with puberty were in Tanner stage 2 and 63% in stage 3. The serum vitamin D level had considerable relationship with chronological-bone age difference (P < 0.01). Vitamin D deficiency was more common in girls with central precocious puberty than those with normal sexual maturation.. Insufficiency and deficiency of vitamin D were more common in girls who were evaluated in this study in comparison of other studies.

Serum bisphenol A levels in girls with central precocious puberty
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical widely used to make polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins lining food and beverage containers. A number of in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated that BPA has an estrogenic effect by binding to the nuclear estrogen receptor, and early BPA exposure could in induce early puberty. However, effects of human exposure to BPA on pubertal onset and the associat...

Objectives Bone plays metabolic roles through osteocalcin(OC) when it is released into the systemic circulation in uncarboxylated form. Identified novel metabolic roles of OC include increasing insulin secretion and sensitivity, energy expenditure, reduction of fat mass and mitochondrial proliferation and functional enhancement. The onset of puberty can be influenced metabolic factors. This stu...
متن کاملSerum Kisspeptin Levels in Korean Girls with Central Precocious Puberty
Central precocious puberty (CPP) is caused by premature activation of hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion. Kisspeptin and G-protein coupled receptor-54 system is the essential gatekeeper of the reproductive system, playing a key role in the activation of the gonadotropic axis at puberty. We aimed to determine whether serum kisspeptin may function as a marker for CPP by ...

PURPOSE Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, obesity and autoimmune disease. However, data on the vitamin D status and its association with precocious puberty in girls are limited. We aimed to investigate the association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) and precocious puberty in girls. METHODS A total of 60 girls with central precocious...
متن کاملSerum Nesfatin-1 Levels in Girls with Idiopathic Central Precocious Puberty
OBJECTIVE Nesfatin-1, an anorexigenic neuropeptide, is expressed mainly in the central nervous system and in some peripheral tissues. The role of nesfatin-1 in energy balance has been investigated. Despite the suggestion of a role for nesfatin-1 in reproductive function, data are limited on the role of nesfatin-1 in human puberty. METHODS The aim of this study was to investigate the following...
